Introduction

This project was born from an impulsive purchase of a conical air filter, which I found aesthetically interesting. Rather than doing nothing with it, I decided to transform it into a decorative lamp. The idea was to create a unique object by combining the air filter with 3D printed elements.

Modeling

I used Fusion 360 to model the different parts of the lamp. I started by measuring the air filter to represent it in my software in order to create a suitable support. Then, I designed a base that integrates harmoniously with the air filter.

I also had the opportunity to use the "thread" tool to create threaded supports to accentuate the industrial side of the lamp. This allowed me to add interesting details and make the object more realistic.

3D Printing

After the first print, I found that the base was just too wide, leaving not enough room to integrate the lamp support into the air filter. Additionally, the support had a hole the width of the USB power cable, but it also had a switch, which was wider than the hole provided. I had to adjust the dimensions of the base and the support so that they fit perfectly with the air filter and the power cable.

The second version was the right one: the base fits perfectly with the air filter, and the support allows for the integration of the power cable with the switch without any issues.
